I hope everyone had a lovely summer break and made the most of the sunshine.
Westrop’s new website
This term we launch our new website which meets all the government requirements and is compatible with Internet Explorer (version 9 and above), Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome. You should have full access on tablets and smartphones too. Please let us know if you experience any problems. We are delighted with the way it reflects all the wonderful things about Westrop.
Newsletters will always appear on the website and we will be phasing out paper copies which will reduce our photocopying costs!
There will be a copy of the newsletter on the noticeboard in the foyer. If you require a paper copy of the newsletter please ask to put your name on the list in the school office.
Blogs – a new feature which allows us to keep you up to date with what is happening each week in the classrooms and any school events. There is a facility which allows you to make comments also.
The diary and calendars update each week and are your first place for reminders of what is happening
We are continuing to add content onto the website so that you can have the best information available to you at all times.
We welcome Mr Walters and Mr McNaughton, teachers of Jaguar and Panthers classes in Year 3 and 4. Also Miss Corsan as Year 5 teacher.
In the office we welcome Jessica Rozee as Admin apprentice.
Amazing School Meals
This summer the school kitchen has been totally refurbished in readiness for our new meal service.
All children in Reception , Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal each day! If you haven’t signed up your child for this yet, please do so – menus are available from the school office / on the website.
We encourage all parents to choose meals with their child and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
The children have shown excellent table manners and a healthy appetite for the delicious meals. New systems are in place to allow each child to plenty of time to eat their meal in a social context. We encourage children to try new foods, cut up their food if necessary and have been delighted with our new lunchtimes.
The large majority of children in years Reception , one and two are eating a school meal. Please do not send in a packed lunch if your child is registered for a school meal as this confuses them.
A new initiative to encourage physical activity starts this Friday. A team from the ‘Golden Mile’ will be in school to mark out a one mile course in the school grounds: Every pupil and member of staff, if they wish, will be able work towards activity targets over this school year. Once the scheme is established parents will also be able to take part before and after school!!
Dental Health Day
On Wednesday this week we will be welcoming a dental health team who will talk to the children about looking after their teeth.
Each class in KS2 will swim for 2 terms this year. This is a compulsory part of the PE curriculum with an expectation that children will be able to swim at least 25m before they leave Westrop. For our able swimmers we will be ensuring they develop their skills by working towards lifesaving badges.
Meet the Teacher
Next week there will be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s new teacher and go through routines and an outline of learning for the year.[table “” not found /]
